Drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park at 8:30 a.m. for game drives and picnic lunches. Tarangire continues to have an undiscovered African feel. It is a haven for birds and is less frequently visited than other northern Tanzanian parks. Tarangire is home to 550 bird species, the greatest number ever recorded in one habitat. You might be greeted by the largest bird in the world, the stocking-thighed ostrich, who wears a party dress of feathers! Afternoons depart the park and make the drive to Kizumba Campsite for dinner and the following night.
Following breakfast, depart for the Serengeti National Park with picnic lunches and game drives along the way. The Serengeti National Park is home to an estimated three million large animals, the majority of which participate in a seasonal migration, one of nature’s wonders, making it the last great wildlife refuge in the world. Day 3: Serengeti National Park
Spend another full day on game drives in the Serengeti, then head back to the camp for a hot lunch and some downtime before leaving for an afternoon game drive. Alternatively, you can leave with a picnic lunch box for a full day of game viewing. For millions of years, the Serengeti’s lush plains have served as the perfect habitat for wildlife. Wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and giraffes can frequently be seen grazing in herds in this age-old ecosystem, which is still thriving. After a half-day game drive in the Serengeti today, we’ll head to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater after lunch. Within a one-hour game drive of Seronera, there are numerous documented resident lion prides. During the dry season, the local prides start to concentrate in the middle of the park and move their territories west and north. In the Central Serengeti, the dry season is the best time to see lions. One of the best places in Africa to see the elusive leopard is the Central Serengeti. If you’re lucky, you might come across this magnificent cat in the branches of one of the many sausage trees that line the Seronera River’s banks. Simba Campsite hosts dinner and twilight.
To see the wildlife on the crater floor, enter the Ngorongoro caldera very early in the morning. The “8th Natural Wonder of the World” and “Africa’s Eden” are two common names for the Ngorongoro Crater. The sheet walls of the enormous extinct volcano plunge thousands of feet to the lush ground below. While sleeping lions relax in the sun, large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope, and wildebeest graze nearby. After grazing on dew-covered grass in the morning mist, the threatened black rhino returns to the dense cover of the crater forests at dawn.
